Boo on the Village Voice's behalf. First, dance was cut from 2 to 1 pages in the Voice, now it is reduced to no news print but just an on-line presence, and now there is no full time staff writer. Aren't they supposed to be the alternative/ indie newspaper? And in terms of dances increasing irrelevance, according to who? Nick Denton? Well, I think that's a really myopic and provincial perspective. Dance IS meaningful to a lot of different people from different communities. Dance for me is freedom and the courage to do something in this culture that isn't driven by big bucks but another kind of reward. I think it's actually a form of resistance from capitalist notions of "marketplace" and "value" which is one of the reasons it struggles in America. But irrelevant, no F'in way.
