I had the chance to hang out with Lise Vachon while she was visiting; I actually, quite accidentally ran into her at an unrelated event. The obvious benefit of giving international artists short- and long-term residencies is that they get a better chance to socialize with the community of New York artists, more than they would have simply dropping into town for a week’s engagement with rehearsals and performances sucking up all their time.
