Shut Up and Listen!

dessay200_tomato2.jpgJK. You know how we feel about the classical concert-going experience. Most of the patrons are so staid that you wanna just clap your hands in their faces to wake the bitches up. The Times‘ Barnard Holland tackles the frustrating issue of prescribed audience behavior at classical music concerts in his review of Kenneth Hamilton’s recently published book on the subject, “After The Golden Age.”

If there’s an answer to the quandary, it probably lies in the word “engage.” Stop appreciating. Experience. Listen. Feel. Feeling will determine behavior. Behavior will trump etiquette. And maybe one day we’ll be able to bring rotten tomatoes back into the opera house!
