So, this review took some time to sink in, or rather, it took us actually listening to Britney’s latest oeuvre to really get what Kelefa Sanneh was trying to say, you know, last week. In “Pieces of Me,” the hottest track out of the five that we downloaded–LEGALLY FROM ITUNES–(and have been obsessed with since), Britney takes a swing at the the self-prophesying media frenzy that simultaneously strains to make and break her:
Over and over comes a refrain — “You want a piece of me” — that could be an accusation or an invitation or a threat…It’s brilliant.
And so are you, Kelefa. Now, if we only knew whether you were a chick or a dude, we could think of some really appropriately inappropriate come on for you. (Anyone know?)
