Who knew that Time Out New York let its writers maintain a blog!!! This is super hot, and a way to them them informally critique shit that can’t run in their main pages.
So I’m giving Ms. Gia the CADDY for her summation of the Ballet Boyz’s short films in the Morphoses engagement at City Center. She totally agrees with our review:
Obviously, for Wheeldon, providing context for ballet is an issue. There’s nothing wrong with that. But films by the Ballet Boyz (Michael Nunn and William Trevitt, who also danced with the group)—close-ups of body parts, silhouettes in slow motion—was a bit of a bummer. One did work well (for Dance of the Hours, in which Wheeldon himself flew through the step); another, was unintentionally funny—a close-up of Edwaard Liang’s intense expression as he watched his overwrought pas de deux Vicissitude. Keep trying.
Come on, Kourlas. Don’t encourage them.
