Don’t Hit “Send”!!!
I guess we’re having a little architecture moment at Counter Critic.
The New Yorker runs Paul Goldberger’s critique of the new New York Times digs. Basically, the building is hot on the outside, cold on the inside, and pretty much guarantees no change in The Times‘ liminal status: liberal by occasionally reticent; up to speed but traditionally stodgy; forward thinking but often head-up-the-ass.
We totally came over this insightful phrase:
“Almost none of the conditions that led to the creation of newsrooms still prevail.”
(Sigh of pleasure) It has a sort of quantum elegance. Artful symmetry without falling into poetry. And for some reason, the word “prevail” just wraps it all up into a sharp little crystal.
Ah, the power of clearly expressed statement.
Now if we could only get our dance writers to follow suit…
